A method was developed for assessing larval survival for the boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis grandis Boheman. Eggs were extracted from diet pellets, surface sterilized, and rinsed in sterile water. After eggs hatched on wet filter paper, first instars were transferred to indentations in diet to feed. Boll weevil larvae were monitored for activity, development, and survival until the surviving insects were adults. Using this method, we were able to obtain 95 to 97% larval survival with a healthy colony of boll weevils.
