A new species of gall midge, Putoniella gracilis (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), is described. It infests leaves of plum and peach (Prunus spp.) in southeastern United States. The genus Putoniella is redescribed, and the new species is distinguished from its only congener, the European Putoniella pruni (Kaltenbach), also a pest of Prunus.
